Chavez Ravine Steve sets up at the Hermon Dog Park Environmental Fair on Saturday, October 13, 2007
There are a lot of rides going on in L.A. this weekend, but here is a short list of stuff that I know the Bike Oven crew will be attending:
Friday, October 26, 2007
- 6 p.m. to ??? - Midnight Ridazz Halloween Ride
Saturday, October 27, 2007
- 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Liveable Places Bikeabout (Midnight Ridazz post for this ride)
Sunday, October 28, 2007
- 12 p.m. - Choppercabras 7th Annual Halloween Ride
- Plus one other ride setup for kids and riders on custom or vintage bicycles (more details coming soon).
So, I guess I’ll see you in the streets!
I recall, way back in the fall of 2005, when I took part in my first Critical Mass ride (in Santa Monica) having one bike ride or event ina given week felt like a big deal. A year after that, having bike rides take place every day was reserved only for BikeSummer and BikeWinter festivals.
These days, in the fall of 2007, every single calendar day has a bike ride or event going on somewhere in the Los Angeles area. Things are exploding.
Two weekends ago, the Bike Oven hosted 300 screaming metal heads on Friday night, while simultaneously loaning out a bunch of bikes to M&A in Silverlake for the annual Art Crawl. That was followed by a Saturday morning tabling at an environmental fair at the Hermon Dog Park and, in the evening, an art opening (at the Bike Oven) and the Spoke(n) Art ride. We must have had a couple of hundred people in and out of our doors by Sunday night. Oh, we also had regular shop hours over the weekend, teaching people how to repair their bicycles, on the cheap, on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Anyway, this weekend is looking to be a doosie. Don’t forget! The Bike Oven is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. - stop by to hang out or work on your bike. We are located at 3706 N. Figueroa St., Los Angeles, CA 90065.
