This month, a big group of us went through a bunch of stuff: kiddie bike give-aways, our legal status (as a collective), what to do for a huge art show in June, etc.
We also went through two pizzas and laughed about 32% of the time (we’ve had a study done to prove this).

Bike to Work Station on Bike to Work Day – Veronica and Paul on this, Harv to pass on Tony Jusay’s contact info – to acquire MTA schwag;
Dingo: Make the day “Bike Week” instead of Bike To Work Week, which forces people to be official commuters;
Frames in Back
Steve: Advertise frames to be built up, “This is what we’ve started with”
Harv: Well, I’ve already done that; We got several responses
Dingo: These messed up bikes look kind of bad hanging from the ceiling;
Harv: Fixing bikes up will require us to purchase parts – we’ve run through a lot of good wheels and cranks. We’ll need to purchase new parts.
Steve: Propose building of frames as a “workshop”. If we’ve got all the parts, then it will be
Parts to Purchase
Josef: Cotter Pins; Harv: an assortment of cotter pins
Harv: Storehouse of metric nuts and bolts – pre-labelled, etc. $10-20.
J. Harv.: How about a thread guage
Josef: Yes, we should buy this
Jacob: Why? I will donate mine.
J. Harv: Until we get a good, quiet, space for truing, it’s not worth the money.
Parts Tool Double Stand – $250
Josef & Steve I.: Yes.
Jacob: Don’t buy one. I can make it.
Josef: Vote to approve money on condition of Harv saying the stand checks out. Jacob offers to build a stand for us; J. Harv.will assist; Stand to be built for under $200. Group agrees to both motions.
Harv: More fragile tools moved to behind desk;
Let’s name tools to be removed from wall (along with other tools back there):

City/Metro Building Option
Harv: Lupe V. from Councilman Reyes’ office wants to offer us the use of the Metro building adjacent the Heritage Square building;
Josef: I think it sucks. We’d be under the thumb of public agencies
Harv: We would need to be a non-profit. Rent would be $2/month.
Jon R.: Anything specific that they want from us?
Paul: If we can skin them for $2/year, I say we take it.
Martin: We need to find out what we can and can’t do there. What sort of deal are we talking about?
Steve I.: I’m sure he’s looking at it like the Bike Station sort of thing, but here in Highland Park.
Harv: They could do that type of thing without us.
Is it worth exlporing further? The group says yes.
Who will talk with them? Harv will be the guy to talk. Martin would like work on this too.
Dingo pays first year’s rent.
Harv: Registering as a 501(c)(4) is a big flag to draw attention to us;
Items to be Bought and Sold
J. Harv.: Kitchen does not sell saddles, does not sell other stuff not directly related to bike repair;
Steve: Will we buy new wheel sets?
J. Harv.: No. If we don’t have a front desk person who is on top of what is coming in and out. Losing tubes is not that much of a big deal. Kitchen sends business to other bike shops.
Dingo: If you’re looking to buy new stuff, I go to a bike shop.
Josef: I don’t think we should offer to order stuff for people who are not volunteer.
Harv: We have them.
Josef: Okay, Should we start stocking new lights? – Group: No.
Josef: Should we stock new stuff?
J. Harv.: We should stock tires, tubes, and cables.
Martin: That makes sense. We need staples.
Steve: I tell people that lights are as essential as their brakes. Shitty lights kill you. Our lights are emergency lights to get someone home.
Dingo: Helmets are one of those things that people need. Once people get in here, they start to realize that they need other things.
Josef: Okay. So we agree to stock shitty lights. How about patch kits and tool kits.
J. harv.: If it doesn’t cost us more than $5 bucks, it’s okay.
