This meeting is taking place on Monday, September 10, 2007. It is set to start at 7 p.m. and will likely end at around 9 p.m. The meeting is happening at the new home of the Bike Oven: 3706 N. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90065. Bring you bike, so we can go for a ride after the meeting.
A sign of things to come? The Bike Oven’s sign was repaired by Eddie A. last week!
About two weeks ago, on Thursday, August 30, 2007, over 20 people came to the Bike Oven to discuss its mission and to organize and make plans for the future. As of this writing (Monday, September 10, 2007), the notes I took from that meeting are still in a rough format. They will be posted to this site soon - to help anyone interested in the Oven to take a look, ask a question, or find out how they can get involved.
Tonight’s rough agenda:
- Organizational Structure/Decision Making
- Re-state mission
- Review last meeting’s notes (to be prepared by yours truly)
- Electric sign and exterior paint design
- Set a date for the next meeting
- Education
- Rafael’s Park Tool certified classes
- Harv’s “Budget Fixie Conversion” class
- Veronica’s one-time bike trailer class
- Events
- Gypsy Ride on Saturday, September 15, 2007 - Eric E.
- Park(ing) Day on Friday, September 21, 2007 - Chicken Leather & Veronica
- Spoke(n) Art on Saturday, October 13, 2007
- Membership Details - price, benefits, other things
- Rides
- NELA Critical Mass
- Sunday Education Rides and Tea
- Anything else that is brought up on this board, over the phone, or during the course of the meeting!

God I don’t know why it took me so long to post this. Sorry everyone.

CHAOS REIGNS…. maybe that is way the Bike Oven rolls….. what about after closing the shop, taking a few “real” minutes, “pop a beer” & talk about how the night went. What did we like, what worked, what didn’t. Who said they were going to do what, & didn’t! Why didn’t blah blah show up, what are we going to do about it. Who are are these people? How to share that experience with everyone, kind’a like a daily progress report. Also that will help control the gossip, in fighting and back biting crap that could occur. That shit is poison. Open and objective discussions will make us better. “The only problems that get solved are those that are acknowledged and recognized.” (I said that)
Everyone wants to help people work on their bikes, that’s the fun part. But we need to also be willing to take out the trash, clean up the crap and plan the next step. The social nature of the Bike Oven is currently the most successful part of it. Maybe we should just be a club, music, good times, party and then work on a few bikes. That way we could just do whatever each indiviual wants to focus on and the rest can chill.
peace Steve
