OK.... start posting what you think we need, I'll collate a list in a few days... if possible separate where you think stuff might come from, ie Niagara, Acheiva, Price Point etc.... also include order/part numbers & cost...

So Steve you are back in the Parts loop? Anyway as you know from last night we need several tire/tube items ASAP. I had given some requests to Harv for Achieva but whoever handles it we need these ASAP:
27 inch rim strips available from achieva $.35 : we went through 25 in about a month? so say 50 this time?
26x1.25 tubes both schrader and presta available at achieva( o available - need four just last night)
26x1,25 tires city type achieva( would have sold 2 if we had the right tubes. 4 left)
26x1.5 tires city type achieva sold first day (o available now)
26x1.5 tubes both schrader and presta achieva(corresponding tubes for above tires.
27x1 1/4 tires down to 2 from 10 from Niagara received 3/5 so in just two weeks sold/used 8! Could use Achieva in a pinch but the Niagara tires are much better....................
Brake cables - price point has some on sale $9.99 for 10 may be worth trying ( out of stock right now though.....) -
I am going to do an Achieva order pretty soon. So tyres, tubes, and rim strips are taken care of.

The cheap brake cables should be fine, although I haven't seen any up close. Basic black brake and shifter cable housing should be OK.
Handlebar Tape, assorted colors, $5 each at Niagara. Get about 10 sets. -
Reading this, I am guessing that we are stocked up on 700c tires and tubes. If not (I know we don't have a lot of 700c wheels lying around) it seems like it might be a good idea to have some 700c new tires on hand.
What do you think? -
Sorry if I'm stepping on anyones toes.... but I was trying to make the parts ordering a democratic process... I'll stop. Please dis-regard any post or e-mails you may have received. I'll just step back and let Jharv & Harv do the parts ordering. Sorry for creating any confusion.

In addition to the Niagara items I mentioned above, we need 20 of the 27 inch tyres that we ordered before. These are probably better quality than we could get from Achieva. But I will order 4 of the Achieva 27 inch tyres for evaluation and as an emergency measure.

Hey Steve - I think you mis understood - speaking for myself , I have no desire to "take over" the parts ordering process, but when you last decided to step back from the parts ordering . nothing got ordered until things were at an emergency basis and nothing would have been ordered unless someone else stepped up to do the orders. You know first hand from last Thursday that several projects and sales were stopped/sidelined,etc because we has no tubes. no tires or the wrong sizes including at least two of the projects you were working on ( 26x 1.25 tubes and 26x1.5 tires). So let's give Harv credit for taking the lead in getting an emergency Achieva order together. Also I've asked you about two other items , not because I want to take over the process but because we really need them. I would be more than happy for you to resume the lead on:
1) Plastic tags for the bikes - we are pretty much out, maybe 1-2 left if we dig around.
2) Epson ink cartridges both black and the colors - running out with no backups left.
Also we could use:
3) Price Point - sale on brake cables which we could really use daily
4) another Niagara order especially 27x1 1/2 inch tires and more brake cables and housings. -
Regarding:
1) 700c tires - we have at least 8 brand new ones and several good used ones available so we are in good shape for those.
2)Handlebar tape - the Niagara $5.00 tape has no pictures. Has anyone used them? Do the come with the bar plugs. When Performance has a sale they usually have the Cork and Gel types on sale for $4.99 and they come with the bar plugs. I have a selection of some colors for folks to try out unless anyone want to try something else.. -
Another badly needed item is brake shoes. Niagara has NO brake shoes at all listed. Unusual, because they used to have a large choice. Anyway, we need a bunch. I have been taking them off the NOS (new old stock) Shimano center pull brakes donated by Maija some time back. I used two pair yesterday on the Schwinn single speed conversion job.

The chain adjustors might be real handy for use on the single speed bikes. The ones I recently built are a bit fussy when trying to get the proper chain tension. I ordered a pair for myself to see how really effective they are. If I find that they are required, then we can order some for the shop. The master and half links are always handy for fixed or single speed builds. We have already encountered situations in the shop where a half-link would be desired. So let's get a few of these. Master links usually come with new 1/8 inch chains.
Note that these items should NOT be kept in "open stock" but locked up for use mainly with bikes that we build for RTRs. JHarv is working on a locking system for such items as well as special tools. Open stock items are used parts in the bins and small parts cabinet. Closed stock items are new tires and tubes, new cables, everything in glass case, and special tools and parts to be locked up as described above. -
Suggested changes to ththe Proposed Niagara order:
a)delete #51464 gear cable housing 25ft for $18.68
Replace with #1227 Pyramid gear cable w/housing $1.34 ( about $1.15 after discount) 5 foot works out to about $.26 a foot plus we get the cable for "free" vs about $.75 a foot for the #51464 stuff.
order 10 and we get 50 ft of housing for $13.34 plus 10 cables......
b) do we even need 4mm ferrules. If so get item #1180 150 for $8.48 50% more for about 40% less. Delete#52869.
c) get another card or two of the brake shoes to make up the difference to get the discount. We'll probably go through 10 pairs a week anyway.....
