As part of the Sidewalk sale clearance next Saturday 2/21,as time and supplies permit, we were thinking of some additional remodels that could help. For your consideration:
1) workbench along the wall between the doorway to the back room and the stairway - approx 54 inches wide 22 inches deep, 35 inches tall - accomodates 8 milk crates below and a shelf for a few heavier toos/items. Slat board already installed.
Parts/supplies needed :
a) 2 pieces 3/4 inch plywood interior grade 22x54 minimum or two sold core doors 24x78 minimum to be cut down or
10 feet ( 2x5feet) 2x12 solid boards
b) (30) 2 1/2-3 inch lag screws and or 3 1/2-4 inch carriage bolts nuts and washers.
All other parts ( 2x4's are already in stock.
The hope is folks can look around/find donations, also Jared should have access(if he don't already) to this forum and could someone forward his e-mail as the I believe his Art exhibit source should be available soon.....
Cost if we have to buy new: interior grade plywood - one sheet and lags screw/bolts approx $50 total.
2) More Shelving up stairs - as the Sidewalk sale stuff gets cleared out - there should be room upstairs at the top of the stairs for more shelving to be build from existing 2x4 and more 3/4 plywood:
Parts needed:
a) Construction grade plywood 3/4 inch 4 pieces 22x80 minimum
b) 2lbs decking screws 3 inch
again looking for donations
Costs estimate if buy new: construction grade plywood 2 4x8 sheets and decking screws approx $50 total
Comments? Any additional ideas? The plan is to start Saturday 2/21. Again the hope is no expenditures required if we get the needed items donated. Even if the needed items are not received by 2/21, we'll probably just proceed with what existing materials we already have as I'm hoping Jared can come up with most of whatever else is needed in March.
actually, it would be better to use the back wall as a station with its own wall set of tools and a 6 inch deep ledge to place parts on. the kitchen has a similar setup in place.
Do you think there is enough space for a 5th stand? We might want to do some measuring to make sure it won't interfere when there's a person working there. Would be nice for the summer though. I'd hate to lose the storage for 8 milk crates. But then again, we did have the long term goal of moving all parts off the floor and we do seem less stressed for space with the various changes we've made anyway.
I'd say the upstairs is a first priority since it is more obvious what to do with it. It'd be cool if there was some little shelves in the mystery room up there to store unused stuff like extra office equipment, supplies, etc. Maybe we could fit Josef's large format printer in there? It's going to get damaged where it is and it's taking up a lot of space.
Also - I got the go ahead to get rid of the coke machine unless someone else wants to take up its cause. I've been OK'd to just put it out on the street if neccesary. But I would really prefer to craigslist it to see if we can get anything for it. I can handle the posting if someone can email me the dimensions, any description, and a photo if possible. I'll get that stuff on Tuesday if no one can.
But we can start thinking about how to use that space since it is prime storage for parts.
We got some shelves put in up stairs for the - non- parts milk crates ( construction supplies, etc) and a big shelf to get the monster printer safely out of the way.
Please post any other ideas - nothing else is immediately planned but Jared should be coming up with the free construction materials from the Museum Display(s) so we need to have some idea of what we want/can make use of soon...........
Re: Coke machine- if all else fails Freddie will gladly haul it away for scrap metal value........
Here is my radical idea: Clear the north wall of all panties, etc and install the remaining slot boards. Mount our RTR road bikes flat against the wall, high on slot board hooks. They need to be separated and displayed. At the lowest level, provide hooks for temporary (daily) storage of volunteer's bikes.
Note: I usually park my bike outside at one of the u-racks for safety, but on Saturday, while standing on the sidewalk unlocking it, I got hit by a van being parked in the street. If not for C. Leather shouting a warning, I would be writing this from a hospital bed, if not from the morgue. From now on I will bring my bike inside.
