The third Sunday of the month would be a week from Sunday 1/20/2008. Anything scheduled and/or is it on or off even if we don't know the feature? If its on , can we get something up on the www.bikeoven.com website and calender. We are collecting a lot of e-mails and passing out a lot of "business slips/cards" so seems like a good opportunity for getting some more folks involved either as new volunteers or just contributors enjoying a movie night.
Also what's involved in setting up an e-mail mailing list and maintaining it? who can start it, how to we add/delete.etc......................
Made by Disney in 1982, Tron stars Bruce Boxleitner
and Jeff Bridges and follows the story of a guy who
enters into a computer program to....well, nevermind.
No one's ever watched Tron for the plot. It's the
look of Tron that really kicks ass. Shot
monochromatically in the computer world this movie is
a marvel to look at. Plus everyone's got their own
Tron story....where they saw it, the time they dressed
up as Tron for halloween, etc. And if you've never
seen Tron, you're gonna be friggin amazed. The
lightcycle races alone are worth the prize of
admission.
Speaking of which....as always, this is a fund raiser
for The Bike Oven. Four bucks gets you in. Tron dogs,
beer and a special Tron cocktail, created by Pruitt
just for the occasion are also available for next to
nothing. Come in a glowy Tron costume and we'll all
laugh at you but be secretly envious!
I don't know how to post on the Bike Oven site, I know Josef posted instructions on the forum a while back...I'll try to find it, unless someone else can post this. There's a picture he forwarded too, I can forward that to whoever can post on our site.
Also, I updated the iMac's Address Book to include more names.
Great! Do we want to do some kind of e-mailing to the expanded contact list ( we have been collecting a lot of e-mails in that notebook - some are for Sandpaper books, but many are for those interested in the OVEN)
Who can do the e-mail text and also send it/and or show us Mac novices how to do it for the future. We could have some kind of standard Oven "overview " like what Harv puts in the Craiglist ads ( maybe we add the movie fund raiser to the CL ads to?) and just have to add/change the date, time, movie feature to it each month.................
Great! Also what do Dave and Crespin need as far as hot plates, coffee machines, etc. We should try to map out/figure out the circuits before Sunday so we don't keep blowing out the breakers. Also do they have/bring their own projector and dvd player.? Last movie night Veronica and Paul supplied those..........
Who is coordinating the movie nights? Some interest has been expressed on the CICLE web site, following an article on bike messengers, to see "Quicksilver", which we have in our DVD library. I have proposed to CICLE that we have a movie night at the Oven to show it. If they go for the idea, how do we get a date for this?
This month it's Veronica and Paul. And it's been moved to the 4th Sunday.
One issue with this is that the night was moved without talking to Dave Vernon or me. Since Dave and Veronica share movie nite between them, I think it was unrfair to change the night without consulting him first.
I emailed him, he's fine with the move, but wishes he'd been consulted in the matter.
Veronica said she's thinking of Fantastic Planet, but don't know if it's a firm decision. It's going to be the 24th, which unfortunately is Oscar night, which might draw a lot of people away.
Does it need to be the same night every month? It may seem easier, but as long as we post it on our site early enough and have a mailing list, I think it would be OK to have it different nights on different months. Actually different nights may bring in different/more interest as Some folks may have other standing commitments that always conflict if its always the same night, so I would think its OK to vary it if its more convenient for the folks running it......... Just need to post it and promote it early enough, like RIGHT NOW given that some folks may still think its the Third Sunday three days from today......
So when /what is this month's movie night? If its not the usual third Sunday we should post something ASAP so folks don't show up this Sunday find out there isn't one .................
So lets get something posted ASAP so folks who were/are used to the third Sunday don't show up and find out we are closed/no movie.......................
I agree with J. Harv about having a specific night for movies at the Oven - really posting it on the web and talking to the Oven about it is all that is needed to get the night secured.
Regarding doing something with C.I.C.L.E. - I think we should definitely do it!
If movie night is the 4th Sunday of the month (right?) then that is (I guess) the night that C.I.C.L.E. is asking about doing an event on. I think we should ask the group that has that night reserved if they wouldn't mind letting C.I.C.L.E. do an event on their night.
If Dave and Crespin or Chicken Leather and Veronica don't want to let C.I.C.L.E. choose the film, etc. then maybe C.I.C.L.E. can do something on another night.
Linda is a young American lawyer, working in a law office in Istanbul. During the night, she has passionate dreams in which a sexy brunette harasses, and makes love to her, from which she's unable to defend herself. A minor case about an inheritance forces her to travel to one of the small islands off the Turkish coast. Then, her nightmares come upon her - in a lively manner
So who's opening/closing for movie night this Sunday?...........By the way the e-mailing list was great . How many folks did it go out to??? Depending on how many TIVO's or VCR's for the Oscars, we may have a good crowd......
Email list went out to everyone on the Imac's mailing list. I added in all the names from the spiral notebook sitting on the front desk last night...and then sent out my smartypants movie nite announcement. Let's see if the T & A brings in the crowds...
Nice going on the e-mailing listing Arthur! Have you been shown how/given authorization to do the Bikeoven.com event listings yet? If not need to bug one of those who can to give you the authorizations and show you how or have them post it directly. Movie night is tomorrow night.........
If you really want to email people, you can use the info@bikeoven.com account, and just BCC everyone.
I haven't figured out how to set up the mailing list software yet (if anyone knows how to set up "mailman", please let me know).
Sorry for the lag on this.
I find that the true delay in sending out a mass email is simply putting the copy and graphic together legibly and accurately. I created a post on the web-site last night, and started a post on midnightridazz.com - but typing everything up, checking for typos, getting a good picture, and collecting links took up most of the time.
This Sunday is movie nite, I'll be there...please let me know if anyone else is coming to help/watch/eat/clean/whatnot.
Below is Movie-Dave's description.
Thanks,
Arthur
Hey Arthur,
Here's the official spiel for movie night. I've
already posted on the midnight ridazz website, and I'm
sending my email out to my list of people today...let
me know if you need any help putting this on the bike
oven website...and who is helping us out there that
day.
Wonderdave and Veronica present March Movie Night at
The Bike Oven. This month we're showing Greg Arki's
ULTRA HILARIOUS stoner chick flick, SMILEY FACE.
It usually takes years for a cult classic to gain
recognition, but this month?s movie night is sure to
become an instant cult classic. And it stars the
genius that is Anna Farris, in her best film role yet.
Farris plays Jane F, an out of work actress/complete
loser who after accidentally eating a plate full of
pot cupcakes, has an adventure filled day that
ultimately leads her to the top of the Santa Monica
pier ferris wheel, clutching an original manuscript of
the Communist Manifesto, with the voice of Roscoe Lee
Browne narrating her story inside her head.
After a string of heavy dramas (Mysterious Skin, The
Living End), it?s great seeing Araki having so much
fun-shot all in L.A., with a cool supporting cast like
John Cho, Jane Lynch and John Krasinski. A great movie
night movie.
As always, this is a fundfaiser for the Bike Oven.
Four bucks gets you in. We'll have cheap hotdogs, beer
and soda for sale too.
Doors open at 6pm, movie starts at 7pm.
The Bike Oven is located at:3706 N. Figueroa St., Los
Angeles, CA 90065
Where did you find this! This deserves it's own spot, it's so kool that I emailed it to the bicycle engineering person at the LA Bicycle Advisory Commission! I think I'll send it to DOT.... hey it's a 1st for our lovely city and noted by the NY Times....
I'm outta town this weekend, may or may not make it back in time for Dolemite! Can someone take care of opening and closing the Oven for movie nite?
There's a chance I can make it in on Wednesday, but I'll be in on Thursday night, and I'll send out a mass emailing for movie nite...if someone wants to take care of that before then for more notice, go ahead, just let me know.
Otherwise I'll take care of it Thursday night.
Hi Arthur - Thursday will be fine , but if you have a chance, just post a procedure somewhere so others could help you do it in the future. We seem to be getting more folks with more computer savvy than me ( which is pretty easy - my 11 year old niece knows more about MP3 transfers the me HA!) who can help you out: Dave and Martin in particular come to mind..........
There may be no movie night this month for a number of reasons...
1, it's Memorial Day weekend and it seems most people may not be around - possibly me as well --
2. there is supposedly a big ride that night and
3. movie Dave has been too preoccupied with work to get it going.
Unless Veronica or someone else wants to do, we may want to wait till June.
Here's the movie info for this month, I can't get onto the bikeoven.com site right now, so if anyone can post this under events, thanks.
Bike In Movie/ The Secret life of Annie or Sister Streetfighter and The Car Fast foward
06.29.08
Bike in Movie is Back at the Bike Oven This Sunday at 9pm. Ride your bike over
The BIKE IN MOVIE NIGHT IS BACK FOR THE SUMMER. AND WE'RE DOING TRASHY SUMMER DRIVE INS. First up, we're going to be fast forwarding through The Car 1977, a demonic car movie far worse that Christine and a bicyclist worse nightmare. We'll fast fowrad through the slow seventies long dialogue and get you the real guts of the movie.
Then after that we are going back to classic Kung Fu, with SISTER STREETFIGHTER, starring Sonny Chiba and an actress that looks suspiciously like one of our regular bikers, ANNIE.. You see Annie on rides giving a few martial art moves. Just erase the streetfighter thoughts that come to your head, videogames kids cartoons. this is NOTHING like that,. This movie KICKS KUNG FU ASS, and it may have inspired Bruce Lee's KUNG FU movie career.
okay
9pm @ Bike oven Figueroa and Pasadena
$2buck donation entrance
possible bbq but definitely some food maybe chinese more exact details at the day approaches
and cheap beer for donation
definitely $1 hotdogs

Alright, I added a post on the BikeOven.com site, but I don't know how to get it onto the event calendar.
If I can, I'll try to figure it out tomorrow...
So, according to the ancient Roman calendar as proclaimed by Minibus - the esteemed Roman secretariat of entertainment, tzatziki and transportation, the first Sunday in August is actually the fourth Sunday in July -- which means that this Sunday Aug 3rd is Bike Oven Bike-In Movie Night.
Here's the description:
Bike-In Movie Night @ The Bike Oven
