This Saturday, May 15, 2010, from 10:00am to 2:00pm REI Arcadia is partnering with Bike Oven to collect as many bikes as possible to benefit our mission to serve the community and improve the quality of urban life by promoting and facilitating, through culture change, the use of bicycling as an alternative to the non-sustainable and climate damaging fossil-fuel powered motor vehicle transportation system. Each individual that donates a salvageable used bike will receive a 20% off REI coupon towards the purchase of a full-priced bike and will also be entered to win a raffle prize valued at $100 retail. **Coupons only valid on the dates of the event, exclusion apply. See coupon for details. We will not be accepting kids bikes.**
We’ll be taking the bikes back to the Oven after 2pm and are expecting to bring in a number of better quality bikes to fix up or be sold as is. Come on by if you’d like to help unload the trailer or check out the great deals to be had.
Saturday we’ll be open our normal hours, 1-4pm, but Sunday we’re going to be open 10am-4pm (a extra hours in the morning for any early birds looking for a deal).
Check out the REI site for more details on donating! http://www.rei.com/event/5703/session/6911

The Last Sunday of the month we try to show some underground favorite because biking is umderground no matter how main stream you think it is. Louis Dekanzy is showing Dangerous and Beautiful but if he doesnt show we’ll show our own goodies. 8pm snacks and fun. April 25, 2010.
The most secret and only art ride in the city and the longest running. It’s just a good time. The bike ride leaves 7pm and the reception for the show starts at 9pm and on. I highly suggest that you go on the ride because you have never experienced the great art studios and galleries that highland park has to offer. The bike ride comes back to the point of start and then we have a party, burning pinata and all and someday maybe this month we’ll get the kiddie bikes ready to race. It is like visiting a small tribe in africa , we have our rituals and our homebre and like all places in highland park we dont have snacks, we feed you. So come out and have fun with us,
Last Sunday of the Month we show a movie at the BIKE OVEN, chickenleather is showing his goods of Bike summit and Janet Sadik-Kahn talk, you want to hear it it’s everything Michelle Maury says is impossible but it’s everything we’ve been saying it’s as easy as paint and giving public space. Then we’ll show in correlation with the surrealist bike stories, Experimental Films by many surrealist, man Ray Dali, the heavy hitters. Come learn why this movement represents even bicyclist today. The surrealist were the only ones to use a bicycle in a prominent light, come enjoy something dreamy, infra structure and art.
Movie 8pm and it’s the bike oven we are like your mom we’ll have something good to snack and maybe some ice tea. and it’s free I don’t care if you dont value it!
Spoke’nart Ride/with Surrelist Bike Stories and The Still Lives of Bicycles Art Shows
03.13.10
Yes it’s still happening maybe on a down low basis. We considered riding to Art cycle but what we will do instead is host the after party at 10pm since we always have a party after the spoke’n art ride.
THE RIDE
goes to all the nela galleries that are open for the night and then back to the bike Oven and this time it starts at the bike Oven/Flying Pigeon at 7pm Dress surrealist and we’ll have ayelid painting all through the ride. The first 25 people get plastic mustaches too.
THE ART SHOWS
Just like sharing a book I will share a few surrealist bike stories and if you have any of your own jot them down and bring them in and hang them on the wall. There wont be much visual except for text so you must know how to read to enjoy the show secondly you will ask yourself do I know how to read, you will be confused and happy that bikes were mentioned in the afore mentioned wall. I fell like zuchini fries and some other snacks. Plus we’ll have avant garde surrealist and other movies playing at the Oven.
The other show The still lives of bicycles was a show that we had a night of still life drawing and this is what was born of it. Charcoal on the cheapest newsprint and $5 a pictures so get your art and get it cheap. Plus I’ll draw apotrait of your bike too.
